Cooperation becomes harder when participants use the same words with different meanings. Defining a problem and clarifying terms can make disagreements easier to understand, even when agreement remains distant. Numbers also need context. Their collection methods, time periods and exclusions influence their interpretation. Data become more useful when their limits are clear and others can review them. Joint projects can create space for mutual learning rather than merely exchanging finished results. This requires documenting the experience and acknowledging what did not work, so that the knowledge can be used in other settings.
